Halloween
A Minoa Tradition
According to the best recollection of some of the most senior firefighters at the Minoa Fire Department, the tradition to have a community-wide Halloween party dates back to the early 1950s — or possibly to the late 1940s just after World War II.
In any event, the tradition continued in 2024 with thousands of costumed children — and parents — and other community members showing their finery at the Fire Station on Main Street. It was more than doughnuts and cider and popcorn; it was a celebration of community.
There were also stories of the years when jelly doughnuts were handed out, with parts of many of them making the fire station floor a sticker mess. Stories of old timers coming to the Halloween party for decades, now with grandchildren. And, we welcomed individuals and families who are new to Minoa. They will start their tradition.
Here are some sights from 2024.
